Frequently Asked Questions

We accept donations of new and gently used clothing in all sizes, infant through adult. Clothing should be in clean, wearable condition ready for immediate distribution, free of rips, stains and tears. We prefer donations to be seasonally appropriate.

    • New hats and new gloves (toddler/youth in particular)
    • New socks
    • New underwear 
    • Period products
    • Diapers – particularly sizes 4-5-6, pull-ups, and wipes
    • Rear facing infant car seats that are less than 5 years old. (Wash and reinstall cover before donating)
    • “Pack-n-plays” (clean before donating and include all parts)
    • Strollers (clean before donating and include all parts)

Schedule your donation on our website. We are open Monday through Thursday, with Saturday hours many weekends from September through May. We are closed on weekends during the summer. All clothing donation is by appointment only.

We prefer if you bring your donations directly to our warehouse. We are piloting a small pick-up service once a week, one neighborhood at a time. We do not offer regular pick-up service. Please note that companies that come to your home such as Pickupplease, Veterans and GreenDrop are operated by for-profit companies. They sell your donations and give pennies per pound to charity. At The Sharing Shelf, our goal is to reuse your donated items as clothing We partner with area community groups to distribute adult items and Helpsy, a B corp with an environmental mission, for stained or damaged items. 

The Sharing Shelf was founded by a volunteer and relies on volunteers to accomplish its mission. We welcome your helping hands in our warehouse or in the community. You can organize drives, fill toiletry kits, assemble baby layette sets and more! To get started, fill out our volunteer questionnaire and help us get to know you and your availability.

We email you a letter acknowledging your donation through our signup system usually within a week after your donation. We are not permitted to value your donation. We suggest that you print our email, attach this to a list or description of items, then consult with your accountant.

We accept clothing in all styles and sizes, from newborn through XXXL.
