When you read recently released census data about childhood poverty, you are looking into the past and not at the present. You are not seeing or learning about what is happening right now and the challenges facing economically vulnerable families.
The Westchester Children’s Association had a brilliant idea to remedy this. They gather data from nonprofits on the front line in poverty relief like The Sharing Shelf who are serving low income families day in and day out and see what those numbers look like. That data is the backbone of their Poverty Pulse.
This data allows decision makers and funders to see, in real time, the struggles and rising needs in our community of families with infants, children and teens.
