Over the past several years, The Sharing Shelf has worked in close partnership with the Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) as a subcontractor operating the Westchester County Diaper Bank, which was founded by JLCW more than 11 years ago. Together, we have provided diapers to thousands of infants and toddlers each year across Westchester County. As the program expanded and demand continued to rise, the JLCW asked The Sharing Shelf to assume full operational responsibility. With recognition from the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), The Sharing Shelf has now officially taken over the complete operation of the Westchester County Diaper Bank.
The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) is a national nonprofit organization that supports a network of community-based diaper banks working to ensure families have access to the diapers they need to keep children clean, dry, and healthy.
In our new capacity as an NDBN member, two members of our staff—Emily Jackson and Karina Tarnawsky—joined 18 local and regional diaper banks from across New York State on January 27, 2026, for NDBN’s annual Advocacy Day in Albany. Together, they met with State legislators to advocate for $2.5 million in the State budget to strengthen diaper bank capacity statewide.
Demand for diaper bank services in New York State remains unprecedented. The Urban Institute and the National Diaper Bank Network estimate that 249,004,800 diapers are needed each year to close the diaper gap statewide. Additional state funding is critical for organizations on the front lines connecting families with essential diaper resources. This proposed appropriation—shared between the Senate and the Assembly—would fund more than 7.2 million diapers annually, directly supporting approximately 12,000 infants and toddlers each month.
