National Diaper Need Awareness Week is scheduled for September 18 – 24, 2023. The week draws attention to the issue of diaper need in the U.S.
According to the National Diaper Bank Network, 47% (almost half) of families reported diaper need in 2023, 46% of families reported reducing other expenditures to afford diapers, families with diaper need reported more instances of unmet health needs; stress and anxiety; limitations on free time and social contact; and barriers to work and 1 in 4 (25%) of parents and caregivers with diaper need reported having to miss work or school because they did not have enough diapers to drop their child off at childcare, and reported missing, on average, 5.1 workdays in the past 30 days.
The Sharing Shelf has teamed up with the Westchester County Diaper Bank, the Junior League of Central Westchester and the United Way of Westchester & Putnam during this week to collect diapers for nonprofits county-wide.
We need wipe and diapers in ALL sizes, but the most acute needs are sizes 4, 5, 6 and pull-ups for 2T/3T and above. We are also collecting diapers in adult sizes for special needs youth and teens.
To purchase diapers, visit our Target registry or purchase at your favorite store then drop off or ship your donation to The Sharing Shelf, 47 Purdy Avenue, Port Chester NY 10573.
